About The Event
ArtsFarmington is pleased to present a flute and piano concert on Sunday afternoon, March 9, at 2pm. The concert will be in Nordica Auditorium, Merrill Hall, UMF.
Marvento Duo celebrates music by women composers both past and present, and considers their legacies today. The program introduces legendary teacher Nadia Boulanger through her Three Pieces for Cello and Piano transcribed for flute and piano. Boulanger taught dozens of well-known composers, including Astor Piazzolla. His distinctive voice blending classical music with Argentine tango is featured on our program in solo flute Tango Etude No. 1. We also bring to life a seldom-played Suite by Clemence de Grandval, who played a major role in supporting new music in late 19th century Paris, and music by Anna Bon, an Italian 18th century composer. In Jhula Jhule, Reena Esmail honors her grandparents through the Indian folk songs they taught her, while Emily Doolittle’s Palouse Songbook explores the birds of the palouse prairie of the American northwest. These composers are creating and influencing current generations of musicians.
This performance will also include Ludwig van Beethoven’s Violin Sonata Op. 30 No. 3, transcribed for flute and piano, in memory of their friend Christien Beeuwkes.
Some refreshments will be served after the concert. Doors will open at 1:30 pm.
