About The Event
Western Maine Community Chorus
The cherished tradition of the UMF Community Chorus continues under a new name Western Maine Community Chorus (WMCC) through the generous support of local community donors and ArtsFarmington. The chorus is led by our new conductor, Dr. Paul McGovern, and accompanist, Christina Spurling. Our chorus members are from across Western Maine and sing a blend of traditional and contemporary choral music that reflects the spirit and diversity of our community. We welcome you to support this long-standing community tradition by attending one of our concerts, becoming a chorus member, or making a donation.

Christmas in Vienna
Sunday, December 7, 2025 3:00 p.m.
Nordica Auditorium, Merrill Hall, University of Maine at Farmington (224 Main Street, Farmington, ME)
Join us to celebrate the season with Christmas in Vienna, a festive concert of classical and traditional holiday music.
The first half of the program will feature Joseph Haydn’s St. Nicholas Mass, a charming setting of the Mass ordinary that is traditionally sung on Christmas Eve throughout Austria. The program will open with a rarely heard work by Michael Haydn, and conclude the first half with J.S. Bach’s “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring.”
The second half will include beloved German carols such as “Lo, How a Rose E’er Blooming” and “Still, Still, Still,” followed by an audience sing-along of traditional carols — ending with Silent Night.
Admission is at the door, with a suggested donation of $20 per person (students free)—but everyone is welcome, regardless of amount.
Chorus Membership
The chorus is directed by Dr. Paul McGovern, who brings over 30 years of experience in choral conducting and teaching. He has performed with ensembles including St. Mary Schola, Blue Hill Bach Festival, and Opera Maine. Accompanist Christina Spurling holds a Master of Music degree from the Longy School of Music of Bard College and has collaborated with numerous Maine choirs, including the Bagaduce Chorale, Acadia Choral Society, and Colby College Choirs.
Membership in WMCC is open to all — no audition required. Rehearsals are every Tuesday at 6:30pm in Nordica Auditorium. Members suggested dues are $40 per person per concert, with students singing free and flexible options available to ensure accessibility for everyone. Singers should register online through the registration form. The $40 fee can be paid with your registration or at the time of the first rehearsal. The exact date in September or January will be sent to all who register.
